Samsung Urges Galaxy Users to Activate New Anti-Theft Features

Samsung is advising all Galaxy phone users to enable its latest anti-theft protections—part of a broader push to enhance device security and user control in high-risk situations.

In a recent press release, the company highlighted the rollout of powerful new security tools through its One UI 7 software update, emphasizing its continued commitment to safeguarding user data.

Introducing Theft Protection: Smarter Security for Your Smartphone

One of the key innovations in One UI 7 is a feature suite called Theft Protection, designed to keep devices secure even when stolen or compromised. This includes:

  • Motion-detection locking, which automatically locks the phone if it’s snatched or moved suspiciously.
  • Auto-lock when offline, which locks the device after a prolonged period without internet connection.
  • Remote lock capability, enabling users to lock their phone from a distance if it’s stolen.
  • Biometric authentication for changing security settings.
  • A delay mechanism that prevents immediate changes to biometric data, adding a crucial barrier for thieves trying to reset fingerprint or face unlock settings.

These features are part of Samsung’s latest efforts to provide intelligent, layered protection without compromising user experience.

Expanded Availability Across Flagship Devices

Samsung confirmed that these security features are no longer limited to the newest models. They are now being rolled out to a range of high-end Galaxy smartphones, including:

  • Galaxy S24 series
  • Z Fold6 and Z Flip6
  • Z Fold5 and Z Flip5
  • Galaxy S23 and S22 series

The announcement follows similar efforts in the UK earlier this month, where Samsung began notifying users of the new protections.

Ongoing Commitment to Mobile Security

Annika Bizon, Samsung’s VP of Product and Marketing for Mobile Experience, emphasized the importance of proactive security:

“We must do everything we can to ensure the safety and security of our customers when they are using their mobile devices. We’ll continue working hard to make users aware of the wide range of security features available to them.”
