European Airports Still Facing Disruptions After Ransomware Attack

A ransomware attack targeting Collins Aerospace, the company behind check-in systems for several European airports, continues to disrupt operations across the continent for the fourth consecutive day.

According to live flight tracking service FlightRadar24, delays remain severe:

  • London Heathrow: 90% of flights delayed, average delay of 29 minutes
  • Brussels Airport: 88% delayed, average delay of 43 minutes
  • Berlin Brandenburg: 94% delayed, average delay of one hour
  • Dublin Airport: 91% delayed, average delay of 26 minutes

Dublin Airport spokesperson Graeme McQueen stated that there is “no clear timeline for a permanent fix” as airlines continue to rely on manual workarounds while efforts to restore IT systems are underway.

Brussels Airport announced via X that it expects “limited disruptions” on Tuesday and Wednesday, while its official website reassured passengers that the service provider is “actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.” Spokesperson Ihsane Chioua Lekhli confirmed that “over 90% of scheduled flights can depart today, though some delays remain.”

Meanwhile, Berlin Brandenburg Airport posted warnings about extended waiting times. Spokesperson Dennis Dobrowolski added that operations are gradually stabilizing, but travelers should still expect delays in departures and baggage handling.

At Heathrow, no official comment has been provided so far.

On Monday, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) confirmed that the ongoing disruptions stem from the ransomware attack on Collins Aerospace. However, RTX, Collins Aerospace’s parent company, has not commented on the status of recovery efforts.

This incident underscores how cyberattacks on critical service providers can ripple across multiple industries — in this case, causing widespread operational chaos in the aviation sector.
