Disney brings you the perfect complement for your virtual reality games. The Holo Tile Floor is about to become a reality.
And we all know that the main goal of virtual reality games is to immerse you so much in the activity that it stops feeling like a game. But to date, there is a major obstacle. YOU CAN’T MOVE without risking your belongings or even yourself.
Well, Disney has brought the solution, the “Holo Tile Floor.” A VR mat that will allow you to have the sensation of moving without changing your actual location or place where you are.
Who created the Holo Tile Floor?
The “Holo Tile Floor” was recently presented by Lanny Smoot. He is a Research Engineer at Disney, expert in using imagination to create special effects. Examples of his work include making Madame Leota float in “The Haunted Mansion” and the “Lightsabers” of Star Wars. This has led him to be inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in the United States.
This floor will allow multiple users at the same time to walk in different directions. Eliminating the worry of knocking over objects or bumping into walls while playing VR or virtual reality games.
Although the video shows Lanny using this new floor with great ease, it can be noticed that the movements are still slow. Therefore, we cannot fully know its features or capabilities yet. This makes the release date uncertain. It’s hard to tell when it will offer movement adapted to different VR game scenarios.
We cannot deny that it gives us hope to soon have a tool that allows us to use VR games without limits.
